Hello all,

I am wanting to slight alter the operation of one of out heat exchangers.

316L Shell and tube heat exchanger

Existing rating 400F @ 180PSI
Proposed conditions maximum temp/pressure 550F @70PSI

My assumption is the temperature increase will have little effect on the pressure rating.

Is there anything required by code to operate under these conditions?

If you are altering the design conditions, then you are performing an alteration of the vessel. You will be required to re-rate the vessel for the new conditions. It will likely be fine, but do the calculations completely anyways - if for no other reason than for your management of change purposes.

Figured so. Would an AI be able to do the calculations and re-stamp it?

The AI never does calculations - that's your job. The AI confirms that calculations have been performed. Check NBIC for the requirements (assuming that you are in the US).
