But there is still somewhat of an incentive to make your own widget green, so you don't have to buy the carbon credits. If being part of the carbon-offset credit market becomes mandatory (either by investor pressure or regulation), then the cost-benefit of making the widget green vs. buying credits becomes a real choice.
