Dear Members,

I have to weld an Flat Olet Class 3000, 1" diameter with a blind flange (Thickness at bevel toe = 11mm) with a blind flange having thickness 30.2mm, via GTAW via attached configuration pattern. My welding procedure is qualified to weld upto 12mm thickness. Does ASME IX allow us to weld this joint with WPS qualified upto 12mm or I will have to qualify a new procedure upto 30.2 mm. ASME B31.3 Article 328.5.4(d) considers this configuration as full penetration groove weld.

Awaiting your expert opinions.

See QW-202.4 Sec. IX. Depends on the material. If Carbon Steel, you need to be qualified for both thicknesses.
