Hello, I'm being asked to specify a thickness of pyrogel insulation on a vessel for heat conservation. Any ideas on how to go about doing this? The operating temp of the vessel is 250F.

How do you normally determine a thickness for a given insulation type? Pyrogel just had a smaller thermal conductivity that mineral wool, so it ends up being thinner.

How much heat conservation?

Our do you have a nominal thickness of rock wool.

If so the just pro rata that thickness looking at the heat transfer coefficients of the two.

HTC rock wool about 0.03 to 0.04 W/n/K
Aerogel about0.013.

So half the thickness of rock wool?
