Putting FLAT_PATTERN feature on a layer

How can I create an unbend feature and have it AUTOMATICALLY put on a seperate layer? I've never used layers before. I can do this manually - but I'm tryign to incorporate it into a mapkey.


Any help is appreciated. Creo 2
