Hi,

I have designed a cage ladder, the legs of the ladder will be supported on steel plate.I think i need to design the steel plate for the flexural stress, deflection & punching shear.

I am confused for the punching shear.can somebody help by letting me know how i can calculate the punching shear???

You need to open up your stell design textbook to have a thorough review on how stell behaves, and controlling factors on design. Do you mean punching shear on concrete support below the plate? If that is the case, you need ACI318.

You appear to have posted this in the wrong forum. Try one for structural engineering.

Punching shear is not an issue with steel plate because it is as strong in tension as it is in compression.

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

I agree with paddingtongreen but as a safety check for punching at the face of ladder leg......... If it is safe there no need of worry.......

Others can share there opinion

I guess the question is "How thin can you go?" We do punching shear checks on light gage (cold formed) steel. Check those guidelines. I think it really depends on the ratio of load to thickness, as well as boundary conditions.
