Sir,

i have a vertical single stage water pump . The pump driver motor was running a with 82 amps but soon after the pump overhaul the current increased to 90 amps. All pump gears are very smooth. But I have removed suction strainer . Is there any relation between this with the performance of the pump. thank you
 
Overhauled, what work was undertaken?
Was flow /head recorded prior to overhaul and compared to after overhaul?


It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)
 
Here are a couple ideas . . .
[ul]
[li]Check pump rotation and ensure impeller is installed in the right direction.[/li]
[li]Check if the impeller was required to be trimmed for the system. This may have been overlooked on the overhaul.[/li]
[li]Less likely, but is packing over-tightened, introducing increased friction against rotation?[/li]
[li]Check the system for changes, e.g. are any valves open that should be closed, is there any leak-by?[/li]
[/ul]


I used to count sand. Now I don't count at all.
 
The power consumed is correlated to the pumped flow. Are you pumping at the same flow rate? A higher flow rate may be explained by the removal of the suction strainer.
