is there anyway to import an Inventor file into Autocad? and if so How far back in Autocad can it go, I have access to 2007 but my computer only has R14 which is Autocad 98
What release of Inventor are you using? AutoCAD comes free with Inventor - so you should have the same release of AutoCAD that you have of Inventor.
On method is to save a a neutral file format ACIS (*.sat).
File Save Copy As sat file type (you might need to click on Options and set to an earlier release of ACIS depending on how far back in AutoCAD you want to go.
In AutoCAD use the ACISIN command to import the *.sat file.
Another option in Inventor 11 and Inventor 2008 is to save directly to a *.dwg. Go to Applications>AEC Exchange and then click on the Save as DWG Solids icon. Click on Options and set as far back as AutoCAD 2006. If you need to convert the file even further back you could download the free AutoCAD True View and save to whatever release you need.
1) You can use export to dwg/dxf format, even if it's 3D body.
2) As far as I remember, there is some kind of connection feature (inventor connection), if you install AutoCAD and Inventor on one pc.
I'm not quite sure about features of #2, but #1 really works!
