Hello, I have some problems modelling a flexible diaphragm in Staad.
After doing some research I tried doing two things:
1. used a equivalent X brace (for some given lateral diaphragm load, I used Vulcraft prospects and calculated what the deck deflection would be and tried to achieve the same deflection varying the area of X-braces)
2. used plate elements (did the same thing as with the X-braces)
There are a few things I am not sure if I did ok. First, should I use just one panel ( 20m x 8m) or the whole structure (40m x 80m) when I am trying to get the calculated deflection? Second, do I make a model that includes just the plate, or the plate, purlins and rafters? Third, what material to use, steel, or I need to create some other?
Just to say, I managed to calculate the thickness of the plate, but the problem is that at the later calculations, the vertical deflection is too big, so I am not sure if all the parameters are ok.
Thank you for your help in advance!
