I'm having a hard time trying to cut lettering in 16 ga crs. We have a '92 Mazak TX-48 1500 watt laser. I've been using it on and off for less than a year without too many problems. I'm trying to cut 7/8" tall by 5/32" letters that are somewhat close together. Currently I'm using 800 watts with 300 freq 100 duty and feedrate of 120". With normal contours and holes I'm getting excellent results. I've tried lower wattage and faster feedrate as it appears to be creating quite a bit of heat. Does anyone have any experience with this?

You could try cutting with nitrogen (just like if you were cutting stainless). It will help keep the material cooler.

Thank you, I'm at the point where I'll try anything.

you probably need to setup edge and approach conditions if your laser has options for them. they are like temporary cut conditions that only get used on sharp angles and short distances,
