problem with installation of shell plates 2

Hello all,

I am working in the erection of the 4 courses of a API tank.
In the second course I found that one shell plate is shorter as per design drawings.
this generates a bigger gap for the welding ( 2mm in the bottom of the plate and 12mm in the top)
see attached sketch.

What could be a good solution?
I think in install back plates and fill the gap with welding.

IMO, the vendor, who prepared the plate shop drawing and made the cut, is responsible for the error. Or, you may inform the Owner and to approve the design deviation prior to performing the weld built-up.

Exactly was a vendor error. I am in charge to approve the design deviation.
 
Sorry, I don't know any detail process or what will happen to this tank in the future. And, I wonder if I can convince all parties, e.g. Eng'g, O&M, etc., to accept the deviation.
The bottom line, I still think the vendor needs to correct the fabrication error.
 
If you have a weld procedure and a qualified welder for the large gap, submit your plan to the owner, weld it up and do the NDE, should be OK. Otherwise, cut the plate short by 24" or so and put in a new square short plate.
