Hi,
I am trying to sweep one elliptical edge(ellipse) along another line. When I go for surface sweep tool(insert-->surface-->sweep) I can select the elliptical edge as profile but I can not select the line as path.
My elliptical edge and line for path are on different planes. I sketch the elliptical edge and the lines on diffent planes.
As I can not select the line for path, I click ok after selecting the elliptical edge as profile then it gives the error message "A profile and path must be provided to define the sweep. The profile may have more than one contour profile for solid sweep. To make a solid sweep, all the contours must also be closed. Sketch for profile and path can not be pure construction geometry".

I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Do you have 2 separate sketches (1 profile, 1 path) or do you have a 3D sketch containing both?

You need two separate sketches.

I have separate sketches.
In one plane I sketche the elliptical edge(ellipse) first.
Then I come out of the sketch. Then in another plane I sketch the line(path).

Thanks,

Are you using actual lines or construction lines? Both the profile and the path need to be actual lines. Your error message alludes to that:
Sketch for profile and path can not be pure construction geometry

Mirsola,
I first sketch those two (elliptical edge and one line) on two different planes.
I comeout of the sketch and then use the surface sweep.
So in the option when I choose the edges and lines I am not sure if it is a actual line or construction line.
How can I check?
Thanks,

Just to be sure, you're not using a 3D sketch, right?
If the lines are solid, they're not construction lines. Make sure you're selecting the line tool and not the centerline tool.

I think now I understand why it is not accepting the path.
actually while sketching the path line I had drawn one curve line also for sweeping the profile along the path and guided through the curve.
Now I draw that curve in a separate sketch and it is accepting.

Thanks all for your help.
