Could anyone tell me wether it is possible to create manufacturing sequences from a triangulated polygon mesh such as an STL file. I am particularly interested in Pro 2001. Any info on this subject would be usefull. Thanks in advance

The STL file is specifically for Stereolithography and has been used successfully where I work to create prototypes. I've no idea whether machining can be performed to one of these files though. I think toolpath data must be calculated before parts can be machined.

I have exported IGES files and got them CNC machined, but third party software was used to calculate the tool paths.

I have used Pro manufacture to create tool paths on IGES surfaces as well as native pro surfaces, however I am involved in reverse engineering and it is a time consuming exerceise to surface some complex shapes. If I could create tool paths from a mesh it would save alot of time. I know Delcam's CopyCad can do this, I was just curious as to wether it was possible in Pro.

I have heard that it can be done. It maybe a new feature added in Wildfire 2.0 though. If you can open an STL file in 2001 you can try to put tool paths on it.
If it does nto work there is a package called visual mill that can do it. The trial is free.

STL has grown to become the most come of the file format for polygon models. Polygon models approximate the surfaces with triangles. Pro/man is the CAM package inside of Pro/E that generates tool paths.
