Hello,

Since last week, I've started using Intralink at work. I used to have a search.pro file to help Pro/E find the parts, which were simply on my harddisk/on the server in different subfodlers.

Now with Intralink the workspace takes over this basic functionality (because it manages all parts from a project in the some folder on the intralink server, regeardless of subfolders in Intralink).

I'm wondering however, what happens with search path settings that are still in my search.pro when I have started Intralink.

Does Intralink ignore seach path settings? Or does it still look in the search paths when it can't find a part in the workspace or commonspace? It is of any use at all to have Intralink and still set search paths? Are there any risks involved in having search paths defined when working with workspaces?

I hope someone can give me some general info on this issue.

Thank you!

Wouter

Hi!!

Intralink is independent of any search paths set by search .pro. When u have a PDM software like intralink, we dont need search.pro to manage the opening of various parts from various folders. This is inherent in intralink. So when u make an assembly or opened an existing assembly thru intralink then all the data management is done by intralink. Once u save the parts, u need to assign the folders to contain various parts. (These folders generally are in a local server, acting as a centralized data base) U then need to "check in" the parts so that they can b added into that data server.

When v need to open a part from assembly thru intralink we first "check out" it in our our space. Remember to avoid failures, always check out with dependency option preferably on "Required". This way intralink gathers all the require parts and files from various folders within its data base and u can see them in one place in ur work place.

In short u dont need to worry about search.pro while using intralink.

Thank you! This answer was very helpful!
