I need help with constrains and servo motors. How do I apply slider constraints, I know that you have to select the axis, and a rotation. But what does the rotation mean? And I want to make something move in a translational direction, what is the easiest way to use a slider constraint and a servo motor to accomplish this?

fitch42044,

You need to specify the rotation to produce only the sliding movement degree (DOF), thus fixing the part in that orientation. Otherwise you would get a bearing joint which allows for movement degrees in the translation and rotation directions.

Hope this helps.

What exactly is the rotation and the degrees of freedom? I am trying to get a plate to slide on the top of 4 cylinders. What do I need to select to get slider joints? I know about the axis of the cylinder lining up with a axis on the plate, but do I click the top of the cylinder to the bottom of the plater?

fitch42044,

The rotation feature references are two planes that are coincident and parallel to (if not through) the axis. This is necessary to keep the object aligned. You should take a look at the help files for Mechanisms to get an understanding of the properties of each joint.

There isn't much on Mechanism in the Wildfire Help menu. Now for a slider joint, I pick the axis of both parts to line them up. The planes then are supposed to be parallel to the axis's? They can't be perpendicular, and you can't use surfaces?
