Pro/E comes with quite a comprehensive UDF and Fastener library. Does anyone know of a clever way to output a unique description for each member in the fastener family table? Our company uses a assembly BOM that uses a repeat region column labled "&description". Currently we copy desired fasteners over from the Pro/E library-to make new parts as needed. While this works OK, it doesn't seem to be a very advanced (or fast) method of using libraries. Does anyone have any tips on driving BOM format descriptions off of standard library family tables?

Thx

Our company does basically the same thing. We simply opened up each part in the library and added the parameters we needed to get our BOM to fill out correctly. If you are adding a parameter to a faimly table be sure to add the paramter to the generic instance:

Feature>Create>Paramter

Then go to the family table and select the paramter to be added. You ill have to fill out each part description in the family table. This took a little time but worked really well.

Thanks for the reply.
What I ended up doing was creating a parametric note within the generic instance of each fastener. The note "calls for" the nominal diameter, thread pitch and length from the family table. I then created another note through "parameters" which "calls up" the model note. The title of the note is "description"-which our BOM will pick up. This way I can call up any fastener any length from the standard Pro/E library and the description will be as accurate as the info entered by PTC. One problem though, PTC has only entered this information about fastener diameter and pitch into the Metric library!
Oh well-so much for short cuts.....
