Hello Derick,
Few words about connectors... You must add a coordinate system in your connector at the point where you want to attach the cable. Attention at Z axis!
The cable assembly. Let's assume you want to create a cable with 2 connctors at the ends (something like a printer cable). Your cable will be an assembly (2 connectors and 1 cable between them). Let's assume you want to see this assembly number in your BOM. In this case, you must create an assembly, let's say MyCable.
STEP 1
In MyCable, assemble the first connector, Connector_1.
STEP 2
Open your main assembly and install MyCable (i.e. plug the Connector_1 in a socket). Then, you must add the second connector, Connector_2 to your cable. See next STEP.
STEP 3
You are in Main Assembly!. Chosse MODIFY->MOD SUBASM->pick MyCable assembly ->COMPONENT->ASSEMBLE->choose your second connector (Connector_2) and place it at your desired location. NOTE: You will have a link now between the MyCable assembly and MainAssembly.
STEP 4
Open MyCable assembly in a window. Do not erase Main Assembly from memory! Create your Harness H1, the spool C1 (cable), modify thickness value if you want. Then create the cable (Cable_1).
Then COMPONENTS -> DESIGNATE and designate the entry ports of the connectors.
Do not route the cable! Save the assembly.
STEP 5
Close MyCable window. Open Main Assembly and choose Cabling fron the application menu. Click on HARNESS and choose your H1 harness.
Noe choose ROUTE-> seclect your Cable from menu -> DONE until you have the routing options, choose ENTRY PORT-> pick on your coord sys of the Connector_1. Route your cable up to your second connector.
Save the assembly.
In that way, in your drawing BOM table, you will see the MyCable name assembly. (like any other assembly or part).
If you want to list all components of the cable (like no of wires, length, connectors, from location, to location, etc etc) in a BOM table, let me know, I will try to help you.
Usualy, I use this method.
You can create the harness and spool in your MainAssembly instead of MyCable, but I prefer to do like that.
I hope I answered at your question.
