Hello,

I was wondering how I can induce a state of stress i.e. prestress in my elements in a nonlinear analysis (MSc Nastran v.2018). the idea is to start my run with an initial value of axial stress already present in the elements and with zero displacement.

I am looking into the ISTRESS card in sol400, but still dont know how to utilize it. if anyone has a deeper understanding of this or of another way, please share

thanks

you can apply prestress as temperature load case ...
temperature decrease has the same effect as prestress
