press fit pins in stainless steel

The project engineer directed me to make a part of cres. However, the part has 2 pins that are pressed into it. I have always heard that cres is not ideal for interference fit parts. Is this true?
BTW, these are small parts, less than 1 inch sq cres with 3/32 steel pins pressed in.
 
What are the pins made of? What type of Stainless is it?


If both are 300 series the pin is likely going to gall horribly when you try to fit it. Although I'd think 303 would be a bit better.

I dont know how bad the problem would be with 52100 or what ever carbon pins are made with. (I've used old and new gauge pins for press fits before, makes it easy to get the fit you want.)

Whats the interference? (3/32=.09375) If its more than a few "tenths" it's going to be a tough job. You might try moly assembly lube, it'll help prevent immediate siezure.

 
Yes, the specific alloys will be critical. If the part is annealed 300 series alloy then the pins will not hold too well either, even if you can keep them from galling.
If these are hard steel pins into a high strength stainless then it should work fine.
