Potable hot water heaters with HLW stamp

Hello all

I would like to ask for a clarification of HLW-101 "Service Limits" paragraph.

I would like to make sure if my understanding is correct. I would like to know when a potable hot water heater is exempted from HLW stamping.

For example: if i have a potable water heater designed for MAWP of 300 psi and do not exceed following limitations:

- water temperature of 210 F
- heat input of 200.000 BTu/hr
- water capacity of 120 gal

do i require a HLW stamp?

From HLW-101 i know that HLW part of Sec. IV apply to potable hot water heaters designed for pressures not exceeding 160 psi and water temperatures not exceeding 210 F. Here is my question then:

If the mentioned above limitations are not exceeded can i have have MAWP greater than 160 psi and do not require stamp?

yes. you can exceed pressure as it is beyond Sect IV, but why you should go higher pressure on a potable water system. as higher the pressure the higher the potential for piping failure. potable water is best 85-100 psi and safety to 125 psi. good luck!
