Post in corner with double pocket doors

Hi all,

I'm working on a project for a second floor home addition. I've got a plan of the addition attached to this. In the SE corner of the plan the architect has drawn a post to hold the roof above (marked in red). I'm wondering if there's a neat engineering trick to get rid of this post-the vision is to have two sets of pocket doors that meet at the corner and allow the entire corner to open to the deck. I can provide more detail/plans/elevations as needed. Many thanks!

I should mention the two rectangles shown with diagonal lines (to the South and East of the bathroom) are existing fireplaces.
 
That's typically done with a skyhook.

Iskjervem.......not with the wall configuration you show. Would require long cantilevers in two directions with no allowable end deflection.....not practical at all.
 
If you can make the sacrifice on your building envelope, is it possible to run a beam along one of the walls out to the balcony roof beams? Then if the balcony beams, columns and foundations are designed appropriately I think you could make a go of it. But the beams would be enormous to stay within allowable deflection over a door like that.
 
Is this a flat roof? Are you willing to use steel?

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
 
jayrod and kootk are on to the only thing I can see. Without more plans and elevations/section it is really impossible to say what you can do here. It is also an excellent opportunity to ask the project engineer or hire one to give you a real answer. What does the "architect"/designer say?
