About a year ago we bought a nice food processor, which features a steady rest pintle on the power shaft. The cover has a mating plastic bearing. They appear to be the same polymer.
It worked fine until yesterday, when the machine welded up. I had trouble breaking the assy apart. I finally coaxed it apart, and the pintle was found to be heat damaged. I restored it to working order, and, by giving it a shot of non stick spray on every setup, I got it to perform as usual.
What happened? I think the two plastics were identical, like acetal-acetal or nylon-nylon. I will suggest to the mfr to use acetal-nylon as suggested by DuPont. Any other suggestions?
