Hi all .

Could I get some info , pros and con about using POLYAMIDE 6 or POLYAMIDE 12 tubing for gasoline or diesel fuel system.

Thanks in advance.

Nylons 11 and 12 are more pliable and tougher and less affected by moisture than type 6, but also somewhat more expensive than type 6.

Type 6 is more rigid and probably has better data sheet tensile strength, but probably does not load share quite so well, therefore real world loads at break might be lower.

Type 6 has substantially better high temperature resistance than 11 or 12.

For my money, for automotive fuel lines, I would stick to types 11 or 12 unless temperatures are an issue.

This is from memory. I can look up the data if you really need it Regards

Hi Patprimmer:

Yes I need such data, my concern is about chemical
beheaviour . The tube is to be confined inside a shell so Mechanical resistance is not a problem to take in consideration .

Thanks for your answer.
I will wait for more data, if you can send , please do it to

OK
It might take a day or two to dig it out of my archive and scan it.

All nylons have very good resistance to fuels, with acids being the only common chemical to really attack them

Nylons 11 and 12 are a little less effected by water, but a little more vulnerable to phenol and similar compounds, to the extent that you can use a phenol based glue on them, but not on nylon 6

For a fuel line, I guess your concerns are aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, with boiling points above about 60 deg C and below about 120 deg C Regards
