Dear All,
As stainless steel materials used for the valve trim parts like the plug and stem, which is more sufficient to be selected 316L grade or 420 grade knowing that the application service through the valve,
Thanks

Hello Nemara!

A complete open question. More details, please?

in selection of valve's plug and seat ring material for a water service application which is the better & right material to use 316L S.S or 420 S.S

Again the details are not enough.

Both the materials are fine for potable water however 316L is not good for water with chlorides.

Note that none of them are recommended for sea/brackish water.

Provide more details regarding O2 content/Areation/Chlorides Content/H2S Content etc.

Stainless steel 316 or 316L is suitable for 20°C, on shore conditions and not close to the sea. These values are for potable water.
But water is not water, you can have brackish water, sea water, water from a well etc. Temperature and place of use is also important.
On the Northsea, you can use duplex (sea water temperature up to 20°). In the Persian Gulf you have to use Super Duplex (sea water temperature from 20 upto 34°C).
