Piston check valve

Can a small bore (1in) piston check valve be installed in both horizontal and vertical positions?

You'll have to pick one direction only.

Vertical has two possibilities, vertical flow up, vertical flow down. Depending on precise design, vertical flow down may not give you the sealing you need at low reverse flowrates. Vertical flow up usually does not present trouble.
