How would one model a pipe thread (NPT) using cosmetic thread?

Cosmetic threads are only for METRIC and SAE thread sizes.

How would you represent pipe thread other than using the cosmetic thread feature? The only thing I can come up with is to create the conical taper.

I simply create a hole of the proper drill size, and then use "insert", "cosmetic", and "thread". This isn't exactly correct, as there is no taper, but it suffices for cosmetic purposes.

Yep Beitel,
you can create a taper on the male that represents the major diameter and then the hole would be the minor. I guess I do this to the drawing looks correct. Remember that this will cause an interference if you perform a global interference analysis. To avoid this entirely, you can make the male the minor diameter and the female major. This will show a gap on the 3D model, but, should still ok on a hidden line view for 2D. Let me know if this helps, and if it does gimme a star!

I use "Insert Hole" and then "sketch" the profile of the thread size and taper. This way I get to see the taper and the full thread length.

Old fashion lines used in standard drawing practice work fine on the drawings, and the taper is evident. We use ANSI B1.20.1 call out, and dimension L2 as the thread-engagement-depth for assembly drawings.
