Pipe schedule for H.P. Liquid NH3

What schedule wall thickness is required for 2 inch H.P. NH3 piping. Also, what methods of hanging or attatching large dia. pipe to the building structure are considered safe or are industry standard for an area that does experience some moderate seismic activity?

You need to be a lot more specific if you want to get specific answers. HP is pretty vague, so is 'large' pipe and 'moderate' siesmic activity.

Do you have a specific design pressure for the ammonia? Seismic zone or at least location? All of that might help you get a reply you can use.

Get a copy of ASME B31.5, which is the code for refrigeration piping. A good reference for almost every kind of pipe for almost every service you can think of is the "Piping Handbook", by Nayyar. Also always a good idea to check with the boiler and pressure vessel inspection authority for your jurisdiction. There are usually local spins on code requirements.

I forgot to add that OSHA also has regulations for ammonia handling if the amount on your site exceeds 10,000 lbs (see 29 CFR 1910.119)

I briefly worked on a facility that fell under these regulations as they were using ammonia to control NOx emissions, there were some very specific design issues that were specified (down to the range of pressure gauges) and I believe 2" pipe had a minimum schedule specification.

We are well aware the OSHA requirements involved with a tier 2 installation. Our questions result from a disagreement between us as operators and the installing contractor regarding the physical attatchment of the piping (up to 8 inch dia.) to the building structure (rigid stand-offs welded to the pipe wall....no saddles) and the pipe schedule required for high pressure (80 psi to 160 psi) 2 inch and larger liquid ammonia pipes. This area has received 4 point seismic activity in the past.
