Pipe Bursting of 21" VCP and replace with 32" HDPE 2

Thanks in advance for you help. I am replacing a 21" VCP with a 30' HDPE. Open trench is not an option, therefore, I am looking into the trenchless technology. I am sure contractor can pipe burst a 21" VCP, however, I am not sure if they can replace a 32" diameter pipe (DR 13.5, ID 27"). If pipe bursting is not possible, please recommend other methods. Thanks again.

What is the pipe for? Water Sewer?

You may want to start with one of the equipment manufacturers (TT Technologies, Earth Tool Company, etc.) or bursting contractors to see if that magnitude of upsizing is feasible in your instance. The proximity and materials of other utilities may also limit the amount of upsizing that is feasible.

As far as other methods, bite the bullet and go open trench. The cost of trenchless methods may be more than open trench with the restoration. There is, I think, a mirco-tunneling process (pipe eating or something like that) that uses the new pipe to carry away the spoil from the tunneling operation that you might want to check for feasibility.

Actually there are pipe bursting micro tunneling, pipe ramming.

These are all different method.

We did pipe bursting on sewer lines and went from a 8" to a 12" on our projects.
I do not recommend it on a sewer line that has min slope however
