Hi,

Can someone brief me the criteria of pile set and pile load test for friction pile and end bearing. Please correct me if im wrong as well.

Friction pile - no set taken during driving, wait for at least 2 weeks for dissipation of negative pore water pressure n mobilisation of the friction then conduct the static load test/PDA test.

ENd bearing - set taken during driving (based on Hiley formula), static load test could be conducted the very next day.

Any additional information that i should know or please correct me when im wrong. i'm here to learn.[bigsmile]

Set and the need to delay testing does not depend on end bearing versus skin friction. It all depends on soil type. Course sand and/or gravel can be tested imeadiately; whereas silts and clays generally require some time for pore pressures to disipate.

hi GeoPaveTraffic,

Yes i agree with you on the soil type.

However, do we still need to take final set for friction pile? For example, the pile will be terminated in medium dense sand not on rock.
