Auger cast pile with no rebars

Engineers,

Someone approached and asked me if is possible to drill a hole (for example 50 ft deep), pour concrete or grout (tremie) but not include any rebars.

I assume this is possible where lateral load is not a concern (only axial capacity is needed).

I guess there is a name for that methodology, can anyone confirm?.

Please let me know. Thanks.

It is absolutely possible. Whether it is appropriate depends entirely on the loads which they must resist. I assume when you say only axial load, you mean only compressive axial load. If that's the case, I would research "rigid inclusions". This would usually fall under the heading of ground improvement rather than deep foundation.

I am more familiar with Euro Codes. The reinforcement is a requirement for precast driven piles, and the bored piles subject to tension, bending an shear.
The common practice for the CFA ( continuous flight auger ) piles is , if not necessary the piles without reinforcement can be used and sometimes reinforcement cage provided at only top 4-5 meters .

If the pile will not subject to moment, shear and uplift tension , the answer for bored pile without reinforcement is yes .

Foundations are not the place where I'd want to economise... just like connections.
