Phase transformation in 3d printing

I want to simulate phase transformation in wire and arc layer additive manufacturing on a substrate test plate in ABAQUS.
Which subroutines do I need? I know USDFLD is a must. What about HETVAL and how can I use them simultanously? Can you suggest any papers to use Phase transformation model?

In the new versions of Abaqus phase transformations are built-in. Check the documentation chapter "Modeling metallurgical phase transformations".
