All,
I was in a discussion with a Construction Manager acquaintance who graduated with a BS-Civil Engineering from an accredited university, is in his late fifties, and appears to be very knowledgeable and astute. He has heard that there is a new (well, since 2008) module on the PE-Civil exam that specializes in Construction. He reviewed study materials, and believes he has the ability to pass the exam. He asked the question to me, "Do you think that I have the experience needed to sit for the exam?"
I'm not sure of the answer, so I wanted to put it to this group.
Is it possible that 20+ years as a construction manager (designing concrete formwork, dealing with soil grades and water runoff, etc.) would satisfy the experience requirements to sit for the exam? I doubt that was spent working under a PE. What would be the main hurdles? Is anyone aware of a similar situation? He resides in New York State.
He has not taken the FE exam, and I understand he knows that would be first and foremost.
Any thoughts would be welcomed.
