Hi,

I copy AutoCad sketch and paste it into the SW2005 part open sketch.
Sketch gets far from origins.
I need zoom to fit, constrain all, and move sketch to origins, dimension and add relations.

In SW2004 sketch pasted close to origins. It was OK.

Could you give me an advice how to paste ACAD sketch in the SW2005 part sketch close to origins?

Thanks.

Use Tools-> Sketch Tools -> Modify to rotate, move and scale the sketch.

One thought would be to move the sketch in Autocad as close to the origin there as you want before exporting the image. Keep in mind that you can also move this sketch to any point relative to the Solidworks origin and then make a relation to the sketch geometry to lock it there.

Thanks Mandrake22, I did it but nothing changed.

In Autocad use the "ucs" command to create a new orgin on the image.

Thanks DSRT, but it does not work

In Autocad, have you tried moving the image to the 0,0 cordinates?

Would this work- add some construction lines to your sketch to create a point where the origin should be. Then using constraints, select this point and the SW origin and make them coincident. ??

If you dimension out the sketch fully, minus to the origin. Then you can add a Relationship to a line, or a point and the Origin. This would work the same way as your suggestion John, but without the construction lines.

Having come from AutoCAD to SW my suggestion would be to start over in SW. Unless there is something very critical that you can't redraw it in SW I think it would be easier to start fresh in SW. I have tried Scotts suggestion in the past and by the time you get the sketch fully defined enough that you can move it without everything going haywire you can redo the sketch. Just my opinion though.

That was true with old versions of SW and I do agree re making it might save you some headache, especially if there are sketch lines on top of sketch lines. SW will not extrude the sketch until it mets the SW standard.

but...

With Auto dimension now, this makes things a lot easier.

Mncad-

I tried importing a fairly complex Autocad sketch. Unfortunately, the guy who made the sketch a few years ago was pretty sloppy and left lines untrimmed, curves not tangent, and lines overlaying lines. SW will not accept any of this. In the end, it was easier to just redraw the whole thing.

Use your 2D to 3D toolbar. The repair sketch button will sort out overlaying lines. You could use the align sketch command to align the Acad sketch to a SWX sketch that is just a point on the origin. I think the SWX sketch will have to be on a perpendicular plane to the Acad one.

I paste Acad sketch in open part document, push Align button, and take point on sketch, push Align button the second time, and my sketch is on Origin.
Thanks CMcF for idea, it is easier to make but it does not solve the problem.

Why don't you just open the DXF/DWG file in SW as a part, instead of pasting into SW? Then Move the sketch a location using Tools\Sketch tools\ Modify. - Use 2D/3D to repair the sketch. - Use Auto Dimension to fully Dimension the sketch.

Acad Assembly Drawing is too big to make a small SW part.
It is much better to take a sketch from ACad and make part.
Thanks.
