Parts List Order

Have an assembly with both purchased items (screws, washers, etc.) and manufactured details (machined items). When creating parts list would like all purchased items listed first, say 1, 2, 3. Made details to follow, say 4, 5, 6, etc. Does anyone know how to accomplish this? Another thing I'm having problems with is the numeric order of the details to the detail sheets. Would like to have the first detail, say 4, appear on the first detail sheet, following the assembly sheets. Is the only way to this is to create the assembly, then create parts list, and follow the list when detailing? Also, how does one add new columns to the parts list. Sorry for multiple questions, any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You can select a property, and enter PUR as a value for purchased items, and MAC as a value for machined items. (you can use property manager for this)
Then just sort your BOM by that column. (right click on bom, and select properties. Then click sorting tab, and sort by the property field you have chosen to call out PUR vs. MAC items. Adding columns can be accomplished by right clicking on the BOM, and selecting properties. Then, click on the columns tab, and select "add column". You can then adjust the column name and width as you see fit.

The order you place details on the sheet has no effect on the assembly parts list and you cannot link a view of a part to the item number in the assembly parts list.
If you balloon any part detail view it will always be item 1, as you may already have found.
The only way to have any link is to create the part details from views of the assembly, and turn off all the parts you don't need.
This, however, is very inefficient and will increase the file size drastically, unless you have very few parts, so you shouldn't really do it.
Use manual ballooning, or put your details on separate drawings to the assembly, one per drawing - CAD systems are very good at the 'unit drawing' method, and in the long run its so much easier.

There is one way to link a part detail to an "item number" in a parts list, but it takes some doing.
On the first, I bring the assembly into draft.
Using property manager, you can assign a “dummy” item number to a property field of your choice.

You can then get this dummy number to show in place of the item number in the upper portion of the BOM balloon.
Click parts list, and then click on the view you wish to balloon.
Before placing the BOM, click properties.
Then, select the Balloon tab…
From here, uncheck use item number for upper text.
Put your cursor in the “Upper” field, and then click on the hand holding the letter “a” found just below the lower field.
From here, scroll and select the field which you chose to assign the “dummy” item number.
The balloons will now show this number in place of the item number generated by solid edge.
This way, you can sort your BOM according to what item or detail number you want each component to be assigned with.
Finally, select columns tab, and remove item number column, and add a column for the field you chose to add the “dummy” item number.
simply add that column to your BOM, and you should be set.

Finally , sort your BOM according to that field.

An added benefit of this is you can then place the "dummy" item number in a callout if you wish.
Just reference the property field you assigned the "dummy" item number to in a callout, and use graphic connection to part.
The callout will then reference the assy det # on other sheets.
To do this, select callout, and then select the general tab.
Click on the hand holding a letter "A."
Change the drop down option to "graphic connection to part."
To display item number, select the field you assigned the dummy number to. If you would like text to appear before or after the number, you can then type that into the property text box also.
For example a property text field as below
Detail Number: %{Comments}
would display the text
Detail Number: "and whatever is in property field comments"

Good point av8errr (but it doesn't actually link to the assembly parts list so could get out of sync).
However, its probably a better solution than manually ballooning.
