Hello All

I have a SS Pressure Vessel (Designed to Sec VIII Div 1). We have some stock SA 312/A 312 material (ERW pipe). To use this pipe in Pressure vessel as nozzle pipe (No objection by buyer for use of ERW pipes) is it required to have a partial data report.

What about welded fittings?

Do we need to have partial data report for Welded fittings

What are the circumstances (When procuring standard welded items) under which we require partial data report.

What about CS fittings or Pipes?

The reason for the above query is

A) Some of the SA material standards deals with Partial data report where as some other do not.

For example SA 312 does not discuss partial data report. SA 358 discusses about Partial data report.

In carbon steel case SA 234 WPB W does not discuss about partial data report

bmoorthy,
On your first question,no, reference paragraph UG-93, which also covers other product forms and materials in your query.
Partial Data Reports are addressed in UG-120(c).

Hello.

The difference appears to be in the addition or otherwise of filler metal. Welded SA312 does not have filler metal added and so does not require a partial data report; SA358, on the other hand, does.

I like to specify ERW HX tubes (carbon or stainless) wherever I can. The trouble is that a lot of people are still hung up over the old pre-1970s low frequency welding problems. But this is 2005 and things have moved on. ERW is good!

If a CS vessel requires Welded Fitting (Elbow) WPB W(EFSW with filler wire) . Does it require a partial data report?

bmoorthy,
If the stampholder is fabricating it for their own use, no. If it is being purchased from another stampholder, yes.

RLS
p.s. assuming both are U certficate holders

The answer to all your questions, take a look at Section VIII Div 1 UG-11(c)

If there is weld on SA 312/A 312 material (ERW pipe). You need Partial Data Report

elsewhere

You dont need

Yu have a pc of pipe ERW,
no data report needed because filler metal was not added,
ERW pipe producer need not be stamp holder.
I think ASME Sec. VIII-1 requires ERW to derate to 85%
UW-12(d)
if when you got the pipe you weld on to it for the purpose of fabrication to the ASME Code (to make a PV,)
If you are partially mfg the vessel of finish the vessel for another mfr who also holds an ASME Stamp
you will have to issue a Partial Data,
Bmoorthy, are you the QCM or the Eng? I ask because you have a lot to read in the Code Books,
Ask a lot of questions to your AI too.
