part ref in AutoCAD 2004

i create part references for a parts list in autocad 2004 mech. when i close the dwg and reopen it all my part refs. and parts list are considered "anonymous blocks". can anybody help me with this. I've been working with 2004 for 2 days now.

Did you save the paths for your XREFs?
How long is the filename?

these are not xrefs. this is the bill of material.
