I am would like to design an HSS frame for the entrance of a parkade that will limit the height of vehicles. Is there a standard that I should be using? I am not sure if we are to use an impact load or should I just design for wind and seismic. Any help would be great.

I think these are not meant to actually resist an impact force without failure but are meant more as a psychological deterrent.

I’ve seen tubes hanging from chains before.

No one wants their prize truck to get dented.

So wind and seismic based design would make the most sense.

Thank you JAE and Brian for responding to my thread.

We call those 'headache bars'. Here's one we looked at that got knocked over by a truck. Interesting to see two different failure modes: Weld rupture on one and anchorbolt failure on the other side!
