Hello all,

I am trying to develop my first clad PQR. The base material is, ASTM A516-70N. I then cladded this plate with inconel 625. We then prepared the plate for a single vee bevel and welded the butt, using ERNiCrMo-3 GTAW wire.

My question is: on the WPS what P member will the bas material come under, same as A516-70 P 1 Group 2 or do I state P1 / P43 ??

Second question: If base material is 12mm + 3mm of cladding, is my qualified thickness range 5mm to 24mm or 7.5mm to 30mm - is the cladding thickness included in the qualified thinness range?

all this is to ASME IX. thank you all very much

Assuming conventional processes like SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, the overlay composition at 3mm thickness will be nowhere near full (undiluted) composition. But everything depends on the service requirements; the Code does not instruct how much to deposit, only the rules for qualification.
