Overmold self bonding to Ultem

I have an application to overmold an Ultem part. I would like to use a self bonding elastomer to reduce tooling costs for the substrate mechanical lock features. Any experiance of what will work.

My best guess would be Polyurethane, but it is only a guess. I have never seen Ultem over-moulded.

What do GE say. They normally can provide extensive technical support.

Check with Teknor-Apex, they have been very helpful to me when designing for overmolding

I just got great results getting TPSiV 3011-70 (Multibase) to permanently bond to Ultem ATX1000. The process was taking the base part, hand loading it into the overmold tool - not a 2-shot process. Hope this isn't to late to help.

But keep in mind that the amorph structure of Ultem can cause relaxation under influence of bondings on the long term. And watch out for notch-sensitive geometries.

GLS Corporation is the largest of the TPE suppliers that specializes in overmolding. Call their office at 815-385-8500 and ask for tech support. Their recommendation will be a overmold grade they developed when working with GE. It is urethane based with SEBS modifiers to make it easy to mold.
