Outputting *.iam to Ideas or ProE

Hi

I have a reasonably large assembly model with sub assemblies contained within. I'm looking to output the file for taking into ProE or Ideas. Anybody have an experiences here.

I'm guessing that *.step or *.iges are most suitable however what are the best options to use. Ie should I use solids, surfaces, wireframe and what surface and solid face type for iges or alternatively what application protocol should I use for step.

Use step as solid part.
In the option of step you can choose ver: 203 / 214.
Ask the ProE user if he can read step and whick version.
If he can't read step ask him on sat.
If he can't read step it's a problem. try iges like solid, and if not as surfaces. He will have problems with it.
If that fails, then he will have to migrate the step to file type he knows with external converters for cad.

Assuming this has been handled already (one way or the other), but FYI, taking the IGES file into I-DEAS typically works fairly well and is relatively easy.

Multiple methods should work, however, always try exporting the solid output first and move to surface only if problems there.
