Organic Content in Gypsum

Following this threat, has anyone experienced problems when testing gypsum materials (or blended materials with Gypsum) for organic content?.

Has anyone tried to run organic content tests in gypsum blended materials?.

Per ASTM, you can not oven dry the gypsum at more than 60C due to the hydrated water content present in Gypsum. In typical materials or soils, you run this test up to 110 C.

So my question is, how would you determine the organic content of a gypsum blended material?

A few years back, there were some issues with Chinese manufactured wallboard having organic content... Is this part of that 'batch'?

One approach you can consider is to digest the gypsum with acid, leaving non-gypsum residue, then determine the organic content of what's left. You'll have to be careful with the weights and calculations.

Another approach is to determine the gypsum content and consider what's left....is it all organic or does it contain other soil materials.

There are several methods for detecting organic materials in soils... any of these should work.
