opening new AutoCAD session causes Solidworks to refresh views

Anyone know what the best way is to deal with this problem.

I'm running Solidworks 2009 and if I have a solidworks model open, then decide to open a session of autoCAD. AutoCad will stall stating at the command prompt,"refreshing all views."

If I go back to Solidworks while AutoCAD is doing the above, you can see the model being cycled through every standard view. Once it's finished autocad opens. It's a time consuming pain in the neck.

Anyone have a similar problem? Thanks in advance.

Having both apps on the same PC can be a PITA.
The best way to have less problems is to install SW first, then ACAD, otherwise SW will take over how the OS, ACAD, and registry work.

Sounds like you installed DwgPartner when you did your SolidWorks install.

Uninstall that and I suspect your issue will go away.

Yeah, mine does it too.

I did a couple of dwg imports, which worked okay, but I didn't expect SW to hack AutoCAD permanently as a result.

I'll remember to remove DwgPartner.

I could not find DwgPartner, so it probably wasn't installed. Where would I look for this? I couldn't find it in add/remove programs, and there is no sign of it as an add-on.

I'd hate to have to reinstall everything.

I don't use ACAD here but some of my colleagues do and they were having and issue with ACAD and SW and even though it was not the same problem you are having you should look into this and see if it will help out your issue or not:

From AutoCAD browse to the Support folder inside the AutoCAD directory in the Program Files directory. Search for the file “acad.rx” and open in Notepad or WordPad. Remove the line item for “swfileconv.arx” and/or “EDWAutoCADXXXX.arx” and save the “acad.rx” file. It is recommended to make a backup of the “acad.rx” file before making these changes. The line item names may vary slightly depending on the version.

We removed all SW the links and that fixed our issue... we had nothing in the file when we were done and the problem went away.

I seemed to have corrected the problem. I noticed the DwgPartner folder on my install, so I cut and pasted it out.

I'm not getting the cycled refreshed views anymore. So that is good.

My only concern is that could this corrupt Solidworks in any way.

I have the DwgPartner folder saved in case something goes buggy.

If SW went all buggy,

....

how would you know?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Go to Add/Remove Programs (from control panel if you wish), and find your current SW install, then hit change. Go through the motions of hitting next until you get the list of SW components, expand the SolidWorks Add-Ins folder, you should find DWGPartner in there.
