My boss prefers to use eDrawings as his default program to open files (for his purposes, he just needs to view & print). Problem is when we try to change the file type association to eDrawings, it wont let us...

we RMB a .SLDDRW and click "Open with...", then browse for the EModelViewer. when we select it, it does not work! Same thing happens on my machine.

Our Company just upgraded to 2009 SP2.1. before that we were running 2008, which he had gotten to work somehow on his machine after a similar problem last year.

...any suggestions?

Why doesn't he open the .SLDDRW from within eDrawing? No need to change associations.

-or-

Save the .SLDDRW as an eDrawing format. (easm, eprt or edrw)

In Windows Explorer go to >Tools>Folder Options then the "File Types" tab to change the default association.

CBL, beleive me, I have suggested other options to him, but as we all know, sometimes when the boss-man says he likes to do it a certain way, there is no pursuading him!

he wants to be able to go into our controlled document area, double click a drawing and have it open in eDrawings.

Jmarv,

I have already tried that too, but i have the same issue

When you RMB, open with, browse for EModelViewer; is there a tick box that says "Always use the selcted program to open this type of file" ?

after i browse and find EModelViewer and click open (to bring me back to the "Open With..." screen), EModelViewer is not in the list of prgrams that i can use to open

Continue on and click the button that says to browse to the program you wish to use to open this file if it is not in the list. There is also another toggle box that says use this program all the time for this file type.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I have installed edrawings 2007 and 2009, when i try to associate 2009 with all .DWG files onl;y 2007 appears in the list. I have read through the previous posts and followed the instructions but when I 'browse' to the 'EModelViewer.exe' in C:\Program Files\Common Files\eDrawings2009 (i tick the box to always use this program) and click 'open' as mentioned in the previous thread by CADFlyer it brings me back to the main screen but only with the 2007 version visible. If I uninstall 2007 then there is nothing visible in 'choose a program' area.

I use Vista is this is relevent?

thanks

What happens when you drag and drop a SW file onto the graphics area of a running session of eDrawings?
