tools >> options >> performance >> open gl is unchecked.

It randomly seems to toggle to a checked box which slows graphic performance greatly. The remedy is to close any open files/models and uncheck the option.

using swx 2006 5.0, 3dlabs wildcat vp880 pro, 1GB RAM.

Is it possible the card has a threshold that may have been lowered to trigger the switch to open gl? or possibly an option in solidworks that might trigger at a certain threshold?

Thanks for any help.

For your video card, SWX only shows compatibility info for release 2007 and later. Are you running Windows XP on that machine? You haven't specified which video driver you are using; is it the one recommended by SWX?

I saw a similar issue a number of years ago. In that case, the video card was on its last leg, and the computer was periodically not detecting the video card. As far as the computer knew, the video card was being unplugged every now and then. Every time that happened, SWX would automatically revert to software OpenGL.

Correction... for your video card, SWX only shows compatibility info for release 2007, period.

I believe the list is only going back to 2007. I'm pretty certain that the card was certified. I recall going through the list and verifying this.

I'm afraid you may be right that the card is nearing the end. All the hardware on the machine is from 2004.

thanks for the insight.

SW no longer lists 3Dlabs cards because they stopped production around that time (06/07).

Legacy drivers for the Wildcat cards can be downloaded from
Other people have reported random toggling of the Software OpenGL switch, but I can't remember if a cause was discovered or if a fix was found.
