I AM GETTING A 0 TO -20 VDC SIGNAL FROM AN OSCILLATION SENSOR AND SENDING IT THROUGH AN INTRINSICALLY SAFE BARRIER. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS I AM USING AN ANALOG I/O CARD THAT DETECTS +/-10VDC. I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF I CAN USE AN OP AMP TO CONVERT THE RANGE OF MY DC. MY SITUATION REQUIRES VERY LOW ERROR. YOUR HELP/ADVICE IS GREATLY APRECIATED.

You can use an op amp to offset the voltage by 10 volts. That would gibe you the maximum number of A/D bits if that is what you mean by error. Of course the accuracy of that 10V offset and the drift of the op amp become a factor. A simple resistance voltage divider would reduce that -20V to -10V. That would cut the available A/D bits in half.
