A silly question for someone who's been in the steel business for over 50 years. But here goes. I never learned much about welding. I'm detailing a job that calls for the hss columns to connected to the base plates by a Demand Critical Weld for the columns that are supporting hss beams marked (omf). Could someone show me how to detail this on my shop drawing ? Thanks.

The EOR should have provided you with a detail, provided sufficient information for you to use a 'stock' detail from the manual, or should have clearly indicated the contractor is responsible for hiring a specialty engineer to fully design the connections.

So, based on your description, I'd say an RFI is called for. Don't try to wing it.
