I am under the belief that the older (ie: 1970's)editions of the National Building Code of Canada had provisions for snow load included with the live loading, they weren't two separate entities. However, lacking an older edition of the NBCC, I can't find a reference that shows this.

Can anyone direct me to a credible reference / let me know if I'm off my rocker?

Thanks,

MikeyFnP,

I don't have a concise answer for you, however, there is a History of Snow Loads in the NBCC contained towards the end of Commentary G of the current NBCC 2005 - Users Guide (Structural Commentaries). This short summary of snow loading goes back to 1953. Perhaps the info that you require can be found here.

The older NBCC only had Ground Snow Load values. This was changed to Snow Load and Rain Load and was extended to a 50 year return period from a 30 year.
