High Snow Load on Deck

Hi,

Found some old threads in a similar vein but none really answered my question. First of all this is in Canada so NBCC2020 applies. The deck is up at a ski hill and the snow load is 90+psf (GSL=160+). The occupancy live load is 40 psf. Can I ignore the 40 psf as the snow load is significantly higher and the chances of hosting a cocktail party on the deck when there is 4' of snow is pretty much 0.

Thanks!

My thought would be yes.
I will add that my experience in Ski Areas is if woodburning fireplaces are allowed. Allow for a pile of firewood, even with the snow load.

My thought would also be yes.

Take a look at clause 4.1.5.5 sentence 3 of NBCC2020. It describes that for exterior areas you choose live or snow, whichever is greater.

Thank you! I have been looking for that exact statement. I have read part 4 in its entirety but its not exactly a light read so no wonder I missed it. I guess I will have to put a copy in my bathroom. :ROFLMAO:
