I am making a part in NX9 referencing another part. I am trying to link to an attribute to the part I am referencing by going to expressions and choosing the object attribute link.

The problem is that whenever attribute in the reference part changes, the object attribute in the part I am working on stays the same and creates an occurance. I also tried update->external changes and it still doesn't change it. I would like to create an object attribute and have it update all the time to the attribute value in the referenced part.

linking the attribute to an expression, wavelinking the expression, and then link the expression to an attribute in the work part still works fine, but it is a few more steps.

It seems to work fine for me. You are using Interpart Expressions to pass the value of the Attribute from one part to the other, correct?

yeah interpart expressions work when passing attributes, but when I use the icon with the yellow tag and blue diamond on it (reference object attribute), then it doesn't.

in other words using the following.

"component name"::expression name (in formula) - updates

expression_name(part attribute:attribute_name) - doesn't update .

When you say one part "referencing another", are we talking about Components in an Assembly or two separate part files which are NOT part of the same Assembly?

the referenced part is a child component in the assembly. in other words you see the referenced component in the assembly navigator.

two separate parts not in the same assembly would only have a chance of updating if they were both opened in the same session of UG. I believe anyway.

It would probably help if I sent you a sample part with step by step instructions of what I am doing. I feel there is some setting that I don't know about.

Yes, attach your sample Assembly with some explanation as to what you're looking for.

I tried the same thing, but used an attribute not in a catagory and it updated fine. When I tried an attribute I put in a catagory, it did not update and made an occurance attribute. It seems like that is the issue.

I should probably start a PR
