Hi
NX newby. I need to insert bolts in a part. If i use the Fastern assembly tool and press apply, I get the error "The family member saving directory does not exist. Please help, I just need to be able to insert a bolt and a nut.

Can 'n bolt and nut be inserted in a single part, or must it be used in an assembly?

So are you basically saying that you want to insert fasteners in a part, but not as an assembly component?
What version of NX are you on ?

yes, you should be able to do what you need to do, but just need more info.

HI

Yes, just a bolt in a simple part. Also want to use them in assemblies later.

I am using 8.0

Thanks

Check the customer default value in Gateway -> reuse library -> reusable component -> native NX -> part family save directory.
Make sure there is a valid directory specified; one that you have read/write access to - ideally on a network drive where everyone in your group has read/write access. If you have a CAD admin on site, get them involved.

Hi Cowski

Sorry, I have no idee what you are talking about. Is Gateway-> a menu sequence or is it a directory on drive?

I found the directorys .. C:\Program Files\Siemens\NX 8.0\NXPARTS\Reuse Library

But then I dont know if this is what you are talking about.

I am running it on my PC with a network license, but everything is on my PC.

Unfortunately I am the first NX user in the group and have no admin backup.

Thanks a lot.

From the menu, go to: File -> utilities -> customer defaults. This will open a rather intimidating dialog. In the left hand pane, navigate to Gateway -> reuse library. The rest of the given path is for the right hand pane.

Sounds like you need to go to GTAC and download the machinary library of different parts. Do a search on this website and there is a lot documentation on this.

Thanks Everyone

Got it to work. The video helped a lot. The main problem was however that the Save directory for the Family part did not exist, as ther error message said. This I had to define in the Gateway-> Reuse library-> reusable component tab, Windows. Like Cowski said, but the video enabled me to do it.

Learned a lot in the process.

Thanks again.
